Greetings Aspen <> Chamonix readers. Our middle school students are preparing to travel to France at the end of the month for our ongoing educational /cultural exchange. Chamonix students will soon visit Aspen. Our children are involved in cultural education classes, after school, to learn more about the customs of our neighbors before they travel abroad.
While our Aspen Highlands Ski Patroller is working hard and experiencing the greatest snow depths in many decades, his French counterpart is seeing Colorado in one of our worst seasons in decades.
Jacques Tomei, Chamonix’s Aspen Sister City Liaison has informed us that 2018 is not only the anniversary of Aspen and Chamonix Sister Cities but also of their relationship with Fuji Yoshida and with Garmisch Partenkirchen. Due to these anniversaries, Jacques believes finances will be tight for partnering with Aspen on a Sister Cities Contest and for anniversary celebrations. Aspen is motivated to move forward with planning for these two events but they must be accomplished through fiscally responsible planning.
Aspen Sister Cities is very interested in developing and helping facilitate a citizen exchange program between Aspenites and residents of our other sister cities. Ideas are welcome and a framework for such a program is evolving.
